More about Tara

Tasmania trails was my idea…

Ex Australian Diplomat & renewable energy expert, now semi-retired tiny house accommodation host & full-time Explorer of the epic, the underrated, the majestic island of Tasmania.

I’ve created Tasmania Trails to share Tassie with the world. Because it’s phenomenal down here.

“I’m a wearer of many hats… Wielder of tools. Collector of memories. Instigator of adventures. Architect of a life well lived. My life. And Tasmania is its newest chapter. I’m enamored.”

Vox pops

1. What do you think about when you’re alone in the car?

Taylor Swift’s new album. Doesn’t everyone?

2. If you had a time machine, would you travel to the future or back to the past?

The future. Zoe thinks the martians are coming, I don’t. I want to prove her wrong.

3. What’s your party trick?

Showing up. Actually getting there. I’m an introvert.

4. If you could choose one song to play every time you walk into a room, what would it be and why?

Unstoppable by Sia. To get everyone motivated. And so people know upfront the determination I bring to everything I do.

5. What’s at the top of your bucket list right now?

Iceland. The Northern Lights. But there’s a few Tassie walks right up there. Flinder’s Island. Three Capes. The Overland Track. It’s a gift living here. Let’s lap it up.

Who is Zoe?

Tasmania was her idea…

Zoe’s my partner in crime and life. Fellow adventurer. Biggest supporter. She’s the reason we’re here. Tassie was her big idea. After 10 days holiday here 10 years ago, why not?

The love affair is mutual…. Opportunities have opened up for Zoe in Tasmania. A reward for her blind faith in this beautiful island.  She now works full time to support our Tassie travel addiction & grows food whenever she can.

Together, we galavant.

MEet Bailey & Boston

The naughtiest Hungarian Vizsla’s on earth. Otherwise known by their Chinese names ‘Gege’ (big brother) and ‘Didi’ (little brother). They’re not actually brothers. But collectively, they’re always ‘the boogers’.

These lively lads love to join us on adventures whenever possible. Favourite past times include possum chasing, pademelon spotting, beach excursions and curling up on their humans in front of the fire.

Our Story

Zoe and I have lived together overseas & in Australia for 17 years. We’ve worked in our own businesses and on our own property investments as well as held down permanent jobs.  Now we’re bringing that mojo south and betting big on Tasmania.

We’re not Tasmaniacs born & bred. But we are coverts to the lifestyle. And grateful recipients of all its incredible gifts.
