Expert Travel Tip

Tasmania’s weather is controlled by 3 converging climate systems – the SAM, IOD and SO – unlike the rest of Australia. There are micro-climates across the island. So weather changes on a dime no matter the season.  Come prepared for all weather, all year and you’ll have a great holiday!

i 3 What we cover

There’s something quietly indulgent about staying at a vineyard—waking up to rows of gapes, wandering down for a tasting over lazy afternoons, and not needing to worry about the drive. Tasmania does this kind of stay exceptionally well. In this guide I share the best winery accommodation in Tasmania, chosen from experience, for their standout locations, and the kind of thoughtful details that turn a night away into something special. You’ll find stays near Hobart, in the Tamar Valley, Coal River Valley and a few hidden gems scattered in between. So you get to experience the best of Tasmania’s wineries without the hassle.

What to expect from the winery accommodation in Tasmania

I’ve lived in Tasmania long enough to know which vineyard stays are worth your time—and these are the ones I’d personally recommend if you’re looking to slow down, reconnect and fall a little deeper in love with Tasmania’s wine regions. Most of these places let you walk to your tasting, linger over a cheese plate, and then wander back to your own private retreat. No designated driver needed. Just you, a bottle of something special, and a quiet patch of vineyard to call your own for the night.

Every stay on this list has been handpicked for its setting, quality and that unbeatable feeling of falling asleep among the vines. Use the affiliate links below to check availability and book your vineyard escape.

Best winery accommodation in Tasmania

Let me start by saying there are very few wineries with accommodation in Tasmania. They’re a bit like hens teeth. Probably because the wine makers are focused on the grapes. These 6 are handpicked from quite a few hours of research. And of course a lovely stay that prompted me to share the joy.

It you’re looking for Launceston winery accommodation, you’ll likely end up in the Tamar Valley, just a 30 minute drive from the city. This is where our sojourn into the best winery accomodation in Tasmania begins. There are two excellent winery stays to chose from.

1. Domescapes in the Vines (Tamar Valley)

Tasmanian winery accommodation
Book this for the experience

Domescapes in the Vines is pure magic. And lucky for me it’s just over an hours drive away.

Domescapes is the only winery stay on our list that’s also glamping with soul (you know I love the whole glamping in Tasmania experience). And that makes it one of the more unique spots on our list.

There’s no doubt that Domescapes in the Vines will exceed your expectations. Firstly, you’ll stay at a working vineyard called Swinging Gate. Secondly, you’re in cool geodesic domes (Pinot, Sauvignon or Amarone) with both quirky design and warm comfort. The domes are not what you expect – the thoughtful decor, insulated walls, heated floors, electric blankets, and a king-size bed that’ll have you skipping breakfast for one more minute between the sheets – it’s all so… luxurious!

You have to admit, it’s tough to beat a private soaking above the vines with a glass of Swinging Gate Vineyard Pinto Gris in hand…

In fact, stays here kick off with a complimentary wine tasting at the Swinging Gate cellar door, where you pick your favourite bottle to bring back to the dome. We love the generous Tasmanian cheese platter and a bottle of wine you can sip under the stars.

What sets Domescapes apart is how personal it feels. The hosts Doug, Corrie (and their dog Nellie) are genuinely warm, welcoming, and skilled at creating a relaxed, memorable experience. It’s the type of effortless, thoughtful service that keeps guests like us coming back.

Inside, it’s cozy enough to feel snug in winter, without ever being stuffy. Air-conditioning, bathrobes, even fairy lights add a subtle touch of luxury. But with a purpose. This is about comfort in nature, not formality. Step outside and you’re by your private deck, with a fire pit and—if you’re in the Sauvignon or Amarone—a claw-foot bathtub looking out across rows of vines. It’s a truly romantic escape in Tasmania’s prime wine country – and one of our top picks because of this.

2. Bundaleera Vineyard & Farm Stay (Tamar Valley)

Winery accommodation in Tasmania
Unique Launceston winery accommodation

I haven’t stayed at Bundaleera myself, but friends who spent a weekend here couldn’t stop raving about it. So I had to add it to the list. It’s tucked away in the quiet countryside of Relbia, just 15 minutes from Launceston. But apparently it feels like you’ve stepped off the grid and into your own private slice of vineyard life… ahhh.

And that feeling is exactly what you want from winery stays in Tasmania.

The two cottages on site, Rosella (one-bedroom) and Magpie (two-bedroom), are set within a working vineyard, surrounded by native bush and open skies. They’re both beautifully finished and filled with natural light, with open-plan living spaces, full kitchens, quality cookware and private decks that overlook the vines. My friends loved the attention to detail, proper heating for cool nights, and big, clean bathrooms with laundry facilities that actually make travelling easy.

The owners live on the property and strike that perfect balance. They’re around if you need anything, but happy to leave you to enjoy the stillness. It’s the kind of place where you can slow down, open a bottle of something local, and forget there’s a world beyond the vineyard gate.

Book a Bundaleera stay if you’re looking for really unique winery accommodation in Tasmania.

3. Blacksmith’s Cottage at Lisdillon Vineyard (East Coast)

wineries in Tasmania with accommodation
I personally love the heritage winery accommodation in Tasmania like Blacksmith Cottages

Moving on from Launceston and the Tamar Valley, our next stop is The Great Eastern Drive, which is dotted with some of Tasmania’s finest wines and one of our top listed winery stays in Tasmania.

If you’re looking for Tasmania vineyard accommodation with real character, The Blacksmith’s Cottage at Lisdillon Vineyard delivers something pretty special. You’ll find it nestled away on a historic sheep farm and vineyard in the south east of Tassie. And its the kind of place that wraps you in the charm and history of Tasmania the moment you arrive.

The cottage itself is a convict-built stone beauty, dating back to the 1800s, but it’s been restored with comfort in mind. Inside, there’s a open-plan living and dining area with a wood fire, two upstairs bedrooms (a queen and two singles), and a fully equipped kitchen with everything you need for a proper self-catered stay.

What makes this spot truly stand out, though, is the setting. It’s tucked right on the edge of a rivulet that flows gently to the sea, with rolling paddocks, vines, and bushland stretching out behind. You can wander down to one of the property’s three private beaches for a swim or a sunset wander, then settle in on the deck with a glass of something local and the sound of waves in the distance.

It’s peaceful, it’s full of character, and it gives you that rare mix of history, vineyard charm and coastal quiet—all in one place.

Check availability at Lisdillon’s Blacksmith’s Cottage and book early – it’s popular for good reason!

4. Prospect Country House, Pooley Wines (Coal River Valley)

winery stays in Tasmania
Heritage stay + Pooley Wines = unique Tasmania

Some destinations just carry a certain weight. Feel woven into the fabric of a place. Prospect Country House is one of those winery stays in Tasmania. Not directly in the vines, Prospect Country House is across the road from Pooley Wines in the heart of the Coal River Valley, this grand old Georgian manor has become a bit of a destination in its own right.

It’s the sort of stay I recommend if you want something more than just a fancy room for the night. This is full heritage immersion. It has all the modern touches that make a getaway feel seamless. Behind the 1830s stone façade is a handful of beautifully appointed rooms, each with views of the gardens or nearby vines, rain showers, heated floors, and the kind of soft linen that speaks luxury.

But the real magic is in the setting. You can wander across the road to Pooley’s cellar door for a private tasting and still be home before the sun dips behind the vines. Dinner at Prospect is quietly impressive too. It’s seasonal fare, thoughtful, and built around whatever’s fresh from their own garden. And in the morning, you’ll be greeted with a proper country breakfast and the kind of calm you only get in wine country.

You’re just a short walk from Richmond’s historic bridge, bakeries and sandstone buildings too, but once you’re back behind the gates, it feels like the outside world fades away. That’s what makes it great. Along with their package deals that included a glass of sparkling on arrival, afternoon tea each day, tour of stables, continental breakfast – it’s a real lavish affair and distinctly Tasmanian.

Reserve your history stay at Prospect House

5. Charles Reuben Estate – Pinot Cottage (Coal River Valley)

Tasmanian wineries with accommodation
For a real cabin style winery stay it’s Charles Reuben Estate

A private cabin escape that pairs charm, comfort and countryside serenity, the Pinot Cottage at Charles Reuben Estate is a compelling Hobart winery accommodation option. For travellers heading south, it’s just 30 minutes from Hobart—making it idea for vineyard peace without sacrificing proximity to the city. It’s also just a few minutes northwest of Richmond and set within a working vineyard and lavender farm (bonus!).

The winery accommodation at Charles Reuben Estate is big – nearly 100 m² – and is surrounded by the beauty of the vines, lavender rows and native bushland.

Inside, the layout is open and generous—an open-plan lounge and dining area flows to a European-style kitchen, a wood fire to cozy up to, and upstairs a mezzanine master bedroom overlooks the living space. There’s room in the second bedroom for additional guests or a small family too.Key comforts include indoor spa bath, underfloor heating, and a full set of amenities (washer, Netflix, kitchen goods). It’s the kind of stay that invites slow mornings with coffee on the patio, or a wine in hand as the dusk light shifts over the vineyard.

What makes this winey stay stand out is the area. You can step out the door and find yourself immersed in vines, with other great local wineries like Pooley Wines just a short drive away, along with the rest of the and Richmond’s historic bridge and bakeries.

The self-contained setup means you can cook up your own meals or simply relax by the fire with a local Pinot Noir. And yes, all of Charles Reuben Estate’s wines, spirits and lavender products are available onsite, should you fancy a tasting or souvenir.

Stay at Charles Reuben Estate.

6. 23 Rows Vineyard Tiny Home Stays (North-West Tasmania)

Tasmania winery accommodation
23 Rows is a wonderful tiny house winery stay in Tasmania

We live just a short drive from 23 Rows Vineyard. It’s a beautiful piece of Tasmania overlooking Lake Barrington and the peaks of Mount Roland. Tucked among the vines here are two tiny homes that rate among the best winery accommodation in Tasmania.

What makes this one especially close to my heart is the builder—these tiny homes were crafted by the same team that built our own. So when I say they’re exceptionally well thought-out, it’s not just a guess. I know first-hand the level of detail and craftsmanship that’s gone into every corner. From the timber finishes to the storage design to the way the spaces catch the light—it’s functional, beautiful, and quietly the kind of luxury winery accommodation in Tasmania that is so popular and sought after.

There are two homes to choose from:

Little Pinot

This one’s designed for couples. The bed is lofted with wraparound windows that let you wake up to vineyard views without moving a muscle. Inside there’s a full kitchen, small wood fire, and a gorgeous freestanding bath on the private deck for soaking under the stars. It’s romantic, private, and made for slow weekends with wine and no plans.

Chardonnay

If you’re travelling with another couple or just want more space, Chardonnay sleeps up to four, with two queen beds in separate lofts. There’s a full-sized oven and fridge, a proper bathroom with tub and shower, and even a washing machine—ideal if you’re road-tripping through the north-west or en route to Cradle Mountain.

Both tiny homes are set on a working vineyard, with views that stretch over the rows and out toward Lake Barrington. Inside, you’ll find everything you need to settle in comfortably: heating, air-con, Nespresso machine, pantry basics, and thoughtful little touches like a complimentary bottle of 23 Rows Pinot waiting for you on arrival.

Outside, it’s just as inviting. There are decks for lazy afternoons, and space to simply be still. You can head down to Lake Barrington for a paddle, or just stay put with a good book and a grazing board.

Reserve a tiny home at 23 Rows Vineyard.

Planning Your Winery Stays in Tasmania

If you’re planning a stay at winery accommodation here, there are a few things worth knowing before you book.

First, Tasmania’s wine regions are more spread out than people expect. The Tamar Valley, Coal River Valley and East Coast are each a few hours apart, and most vineyards sit a little off the main tourist routes. That’s part of their charm—but it also means that plotting out where to go, where to stay, and how long to spend in each region takes a bit of thought.

Most winery accommodation here is self-contained, and many places—especially the smaller boutique stays—don’t have restaurants on site. So it’s worth checking what’s nearby for meals, or planning ahead to cook for yourself (a good local cheese and a bottle of Pinot goes a long way). Some properties offer private tastings, while others are close to cellar doors you can walk to. And not all have mobile reception—something to keep in mind if you’re relying on Google Maps to navigate.

If you’re anything like me, you probably start with a few top picks and then realise half of them are nowhere near each other. That’s exactly why I put together my own winery map over the last 3 years—partly for myself, partly so I could stop writing the same directions down for friends.

Save time with my Wineries in Tasmania Google Map

After living here for several years and visiting more than 100 cellar doors, I started pinning every one of them to a private Google Map—along with notes, routes and my go-to stops across the Tamar, Coal River and East Coast wine regions.

Now I’ve made that map available to readers who want to plan their trip the way locals do.

It’s just the actual map I use to plan winery weekends, with all of the vineyards and cellar doors pinned—including hidden gems, newer producers, and wineries I’d actually recommend. You’ll also get a simple how-to guide for loading it into your own Google Maps app so you can use it on the go.

Save time and use my private Google Map to plan your winery tours and tastings

Use my private Google Map to figure out which regions to visit, which wineries are close to each other, and where you might want to stay a night or two among the vines. It’s the tool I wish I had when I first started exploring Tasmania’s wine scene—and I reckon it’ll save you hours of research.
